摘要：南明著名的爱国使臣左懋第宁死不辱使命，于顺治二年（1645）被清廷杀害，壮烈殉国，成为一位堪与南宋文天祥比肩的民族英雄。

可是关于左懋第史事的一些文献记载多有讹误。本文依据有关行状、墓志铭及其他有关文献资料，对关于左懋第史事的一些错误记载进行了纠谬辨正的工作。

关键词：左懋第；史事；辨正左懋第（1601~1645），字仲及，号萝石，山东莱阳人，明崇祯四年（1631）登进士第，历官韩城知县、户科给事中。崇祯十七年（1644）三月，李自成农民军攻陷北京，崇祯帝自缢煤山，满清大军乘机入关，进占北京，席卷北中国。

五月，福王朱由崧于南京即皇帝位，是为南明弘光帝。南明既建，左懋第即被委任为太常寺少卿，不久又升任都察院右佥都御史，巡抚应天、安庆、徽州诸府。

六月，左懋第临危受命，奉诏率使团赴北京与满清议和。在出使过程中，他不屈不挠，宁死不辱使命，最后于顺治二年（1645）被清廷杀害，壮烈殉国，表现了崇高的爱国精神和民族气节，谱写了一曲气壮山河的正气之歌，成为一位堪与文天祥比肩的民族英雄。

可是，由于左懋第生当明清鼎革的混乱时期，因而关于这位民族英雄的史事记载多有失实之处。我们拟通过综合考证有关文献，对有关左懋第史事的失实记载加以纠谬辨正，以期恢复历史的本来面目。
